She was the daughter of James A. Vaughn and Margaret Marshall. In 1900, she was living in New Orleans with her parents and siblings. The household, all born in Louisiana included: James A. Vaughn, age 42, born in Louisiana to a father from Tennessee and a mother from Ireland; Margarette, age 33; James A., age 16; Mary, age 14; Emily, born April 1887; John, age 11; Kattie, age 9; Arthur, age 7; Daniel, age 6; Mercidese, age 3; and Edwin D., age 1. In 1910, her parents and some of her siblings were still living in New Orleans. She married Otto A. Trost in 1906 and in 1910, they were living with his father in Chicago, Ward 34, Cook County, Illinois. In 1920, she and Otto and their two children were living in Duval County, Florida. A 17 year old Cornelius Vaughn was living with them.
