Christopher Minsinger Long in Business Here.

Christopher Minsinger, president of the Star Sand company of Portland who died March 30, was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., October 16, 1855. His father, a native of Germany, was long in the sand and gravel business in the Pennsylvania city. The boy was educated in the schools of his native city, graduating from Duff's college there with honors. He worked for his father until about 1876, when young Minsinger went to Japan with a cargo of Kentucky horses for the Japanese government.

Upon his return Mr. Minsinger organized the Star Sand company of Pittsburgh and afterward with a number of business associates formed the Iron City Sand company, into which was merged the Star and the Monongahela companies. This Iron City company is still in existence.

In July 1889, Christopher Minsinger arrived in Portland and soon after organized the Star Sand company of this city. He served as president of the concern from its beginning. He also was an importer of horses and brought a number from Belgium which were blue ribbon winners at various fairs held in the northwest.

He was owner of a large stock farm near Marmot on the Sandy river some 40 miles from Portland.

In 1889 Mr. Minsinger married Miss Caroline Bunton of Pittsburgh. Their daughters are Mrs. Spencer Scott of Scarsdale, N.Y. and Mrs. Adolph Neu of Portland. Mr. Minsinger was a Scottish Rite Mason, an Odd Fellow and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church and the Multnomah Club.
