Ralph O. Brown, farmer/musician, dies this morning

Ralph O. Brown, 1505 Smokey Road, died suddenly at his residence at 12:45 a.m. today.

A Morgan County native, he was born Dec. 1 1902 to Thomas and Daisy Greenwood Brown.

In 1949 he married the former Opal Renner Williams, and she survives.

Surviving besides his wife are a stepson, Robert Edward Williams, of Bloomington: a stepdaughter, Marjorie Shannon, of Paragon: two brothers, Carl Brown of Illinois and William Hugh Brown of Georgia: two sisters, Verna Vandeventer of Mooresville and Marion Small of Canada: six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Mr. Brown had lived all his life in Morgan County, was a farmer and thresher and owned a lumber mill.

He was a member of the Bluff Creek Christian Church, a former member of the Waverly Masonic Lodge, a guard at the Paragon Speedway and very active in the Morgan County Civil Defense and CB clubs.

He was also very active in the field of music. He played the flute, piccolo and trombone, and participated in the Johnson County Band and Orchestra and the former orchestra at Banta. He also taught music at the Taylor Music Store.

Jack Shannon will conduct the funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at the Neal and Summers Chapel.

Burial will be in the 1OOF Cemetery at Waverly.
