Laura Altman Horton, of Kingstree, widow of William B. Horton, Sr., died October 24, 2011, after an illness.
Born October 19, 1918, in Hemingway, she was a daughter of John Graham and Lillie Gordon Altman.
Mrs. Horton graduated from Union High School near Hemingway and attended Montreat College.
"Miss Laura" was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where she taught the 2-3 year olds Sunday school for 53 years and was a member of the Katie Cole Circle. For many years she was a Girl Scout leader for Troop 54 and she was a member of the American Legion Post #8 Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John L. Altman, Margie Altman, Lal Montgomery, Margaret Luthi, George Altman, and Leon Altman. Surviving are: her daughter Jane H. Brandt and husband Walter, of Florence; her son Billy Horton and wife Beth, of Kingstree; her grandchildren, Meg B. Lane and husband Chris and Michael Brandt and wife Toni, all of Florence and Elissa H. Swicord and husband Tim and "B" Horton and wife Cheray, all of Kingstree; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., October 27, 2011, in Kingstree United Methodist Church, with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.
