Helena Johanna Mayer Neu was born June 4, 1914, to Henry Mayer and Johanna Schweikert Mayer on their dry farm about 14 miles south west of Aberdeen, Idaho. She grew up in Pleasant Valley after moving off the original farm.

While attending school she met and fell in love with Emil Neu. Helena and Emil were married in the old Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley on November 20, 1932.

Helena wasn't afraid of hard work and worked in many capacities throughout her life. Though she worked hard, she also had many talents for crocheting, sewing and cooking. Music and gardening were two of her favorite pleasures in life.

Helena passed away October 7, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, several siblings, two sons-in-law and one grandson. She is survived by daughters, Dorothy Carpenter and Rita Atkinson; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 656 Tyhee Avenue in American Falls on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held in the fireside room one hour prior to service. Interment will be in the American Falls Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Rose Mortuary in American Falls.
