Robert "Bob" C. Mayer, 81, died peacefully at home Dec. 2, 2015 after a long courageous fight for life.

He was born May 5, 1934, the eighth out of 10 children to Henry and Bertha Mayer in American Falls, Idaho.

He attended Pleasant Valley grade school and 1952 graduated from American Falls High School.

After high school, one of his proudest achievements was he joined the Marines January 1953 to 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1961.

After the Marines, he was hired by Safeway Stores Inc., another proud achievement, he worked for them for 40 years to the day, in southern California, Idaho and Arizona, all in the produce dept. Bob wasn't afraid of hard work and kept a lot of second jobs also.

A previous marriage gave him two sons, Kenneth S. (Sandra) Mayer of Dallas, Oregon and Samuel G. Mayer of Winston, Oregon. He was extremely proud of them.

He married his soul mate Linda Duncan Mayer on Aug. 31, 1969. They had 46 of the best years together.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Bertha; brothers Ted Schmidt, Theophil (Vinnie) Schmidt, Otto (Dorothy) Mayer, Alfred (June) Mayer, Art (Rose) Mayer; sisters Theresa (Lloyd) Nieman and Helena (Emil) Neu; and granddaughter Jennifer Cutler.

He is survived by his wife Linda; sons Ken and Sam; brother, Emil Mayer of Idaho; and sister Viola Gambill of California; grandchildren Brandie (Brad) Mangum of Oregon, Adam (Tanja) Mayer of Colorado, Hilary (Brian) Miller of Oregon; great grands Merick, Aurora, Jayda, Gabriel, Sara and Lillian.

Bob loved his family and the outdoors, fishing, camping, water skiing, square dancing, wintering down in Yuma and most of all carpentry and life in general.

A graveside service will take place in the future in American Falls, Idaho at Falls View Cemetery.

Our deepest thanks to Granite Mountain Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Granite Mountain Hospice, Disabled American Veterans or the Prescott Humane Society.

He will be truly missed beyond words by all his family and friends.
