JOSEPH RAY - OBITUARY

Joseph Oliver Ray, 70, of 401 Weaver Lane, died Wednesday at his residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Hall's Chapel Congregational Holiness Church, with the Rev. Barney Ford and the Rev. Lloyd Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville with Gray Brown-Service in charge.

Surivors include his widow, Mrs. Jessie Garrett Ray; seven daughters, Mrs. Margaret Ward (Piedmont), Mrs. Mavis Jenkins (Phoenix, AR), Mrs. Clara Maye (Hillsboro, Texas), Mrs. Gertrude Sterling, Mrs. Pat Fitchjarrell, Mrs. Louise Burrows, and Mrs. Kathrine Curvalho (all of Atlanta, GA); five sons, Clifford Ray (Holly Mill, FL), Ted Ray (Foley, AL), Elvin Ray (Des Moines, Iowa), Bill Ray (Atlanta, GA) and Otis Ray (Houston, Texas). One sister, Mrs. Carrie Hicks (Piedmont, AL); three brothers, Austin and Willie Ray (Anniston, AL) and Colvin Ray (Jacksonville, AL); 51 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ray was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County, a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenter's Local Union.

The body will remain at the residence until the time of service.
