Floyd E. Thatcher, 81, of Central Street, a retired selectman and Postal Service mail carrier, died Monday at The Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. He delivered the mail for 40 years between Charlemont and Plainfield, and also delivered newspapers along the same route. He served for 21 years as a selectman here. Born in this town, he was a member of the Congregational Church, and a past master of the Grange. He leaves his wife of 61 years, the former Ruth Burdick; a son, Arthur of Plainfield; three daughters; a brother, Kingsley of Turners Falls; four sisters; 19 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral and burial will be private in Hilltop Cemetery. Bisbee Funeral Home is in charge, and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fire Department, in care of Dennis Thatcher, Central Street, Plainfield, 01070.
