Peder Bertilson was born to Bertil Olsen and Ragnild Olsdatter Lodengaard (both born in 1771) on May 9, 1808 in Østre Gausdal, Opland County, Norway. Different sources list different birth dates for Peder; however, the original baptismal record lists May 9, whereas the tombstone says May 12. The Mormon site lists June 14.

Peder had 11 siblings: Bertha, Lisbeth, Ole, Hans, Anders, Amund, Gunder, Anne (who died as child), Anne, Ane.

Peder Bertelsen & Mari Olsdr were married 05 Oct 1835 in Follebu, Opland, Norway.

Peder Bertilson Berge (AKA Busbergbjerget) and wife Mari Olsdatter Sønstegaard left Østre Gausdal, Oppland, Norway and came to America with their five children: Ole, Amund, Hans, Bertil and Anna on the "Preciosa", which sailed from Drammen, Buskerud, on 2 Jun 1849 and arrived in New York on 26 Jul 1849. They came to Jefferson County, Wisconsin, and moved about 1854 to Martell Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin.

Peder is buried next to his sister Anne's son Ole Ohre and his wife.
