MUNCIE--Letha Ashby Brannan, 85, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, September 21, 2011 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born on May 8, 1926 in Clay County, TN, the daughter of Burr and Rosie Spear and moved to Muncie in 1942.
Letha was employed at Greene's Dime Store, Stillman Department Store, Wells Department Store, and K-Mart South for over twenty years prior to her retirement in 1988, where she received the Customer Service Award in 1984.
She was a member of Four Square Gospel Church. She was also an avid cook, baker, sewer, and embroiderer, and her real joy was her family.
Surviving are nine children, Charles F. Ashby (Peggy) of Guatay, CA, Judie Anne Elsener (William) of Bowling Green, KY, Louise McKibben (John) of Tickfaw, LA, Sandra Kay Guimond of Bowling Green, KY, Kathy Moore (Lonnie) of Bowling Green, KY, Timothy Eugene Ashby (Debbie) of El Cajon, CA, Terry Lee Ashby of Muncie, Danny William Ashby (Betty) of Muncie, and Rebecca Lynn Craft (Bobby) of Muncie; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gene W. Ashby; her second husband, A.V. Brannan; her brother, Van Spear; and her sister, Pauline Goodman.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday or one hour prior to services on Friday.
