~Nicolaus Adams, son of Johann Peter Adams and Anna Gertrude Gilles, married Susanna Gaeb, daughter of Nicolaus Gaeb and Anna Barbara Steffens, on 20 April 1830, at St Kastor Catholic Church in Weiler, Germany. Nicolaus and Susanna along with their five children, Maria, Castor, Mathias, Margaretha and Peter, left Hirten, Germany and sailed for 38 days to reach New York, arriving at Port of New York on 2 August 1841. They then traveled from New York to Chicago by rail and from Chicago to Johnsburg, by oxen-drawn wagon, arriving in August/September of 1841, along with Jacob Schmitt and his family, and Nicholas Frett and his family, and Susanna's brother, Nicolaus Gaeb. The Adams, Schmitt and Frett families were the first families to settle in what would become Johnsburg, and they organized the parish and church, St John the Baptist Catholic Church ~
