Dr. Farra L. Botkin, 87, who established his practice of veterinary surgery in Delaware County 62 years ago, died at Ball Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening after a week's critical illness. He had been in failing health three years. The family home is at 501 Riverside Ave.

Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary Thursday afternoon and evening. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the family residence, 504 Riverside Ave. Dr. Lewis Weber Gishler will officiate and interment will be in Elm Ridge mausoleum. Meeks Mortuary is in charge.

Dr. Botkin, who was born at Unionport, Randolph County, April 7, 1868, is survived by his wife, Amy T.; a brother, Dr. Van V. Botkin of Muncie; a sister, Mrs. Orpha Pegg of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Charles L. Botkin, a practicing physician in Muncie for many years before moving to Hollywood, Fla, is a cousin.

Dr. Botkin was prominent in Muncie civic life over a period of many years, and was one of the early crusaders for tax reform. He maintained offices on East Charles Street until a few years ago when he moved to the Riverside Avenue address.
He was a graduate of Toronto (Can.) Veterinary College, which awarded him gold and silver medals for his achievements.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Botkin, Dr. Clyde Botkin, Horace Weber, Burle Pland, Don Browning, all of Muncie; Dr. Bernard LaSalle of New Castle; Dr. William Rossell of Columbus, O., and Elmon Williams of Indianapolis.
