Karl Ludwig August Henk was born December 4, 1867, at Dobberphul, in the vicinity of Pyritz, Germany. As a young man he worked as a chauffeur for a rich family in Germany. He came to America in 1890 and worked for other people until he started farming for himself. On September 28, 1891, he married Augusta Butte, born May 16, 1870, Fuerstensee Province, Pommern, Germany, who came to America in the spring of 1891. They first lived in Western NE where Emma was born. Erna, Anna and Martha were born one mile north and 1/2 mile east of Western. They then moved to the John Barta place - 4 miles east and 1 mile north of Western. Then to the Ed Hintz place - 1 mile south, 1 1/2 miles east of Western, where Emil, Arthur and Fred were born; and then to Bull Dwyer's place - 2 miles north, 2 1/2 miles east on the north side of the road and Carl was born there. The school they went to at that time was 2 miles north and 4 miles east of Western. They also lived on the Kochsmeir place - 1 mile east, 3/4 north of Western - the Sasek place now; also on a place 1/2 miles west of Western on the south side of the read. They then moved closer to Tobias - 1/4 mile east, 1 mile south, 1 1/2 miles east, where Martin Bartels lives now.

The funeral was held from St. John's Church, Western, Saline Co, NE with Rev. George Freese presiding. He was living with his daughter - Mrs. Wm Schwan at the time of his death. Cause of death was Plastic anemia.

2009 - Dobberphul is now Dobropole, Pyrzyckie, Poland. It sits near the Baltic Sea and is west of Sallenten, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Prussia. It is slightly south of Doelitz (now Dolice, Poland)
