Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Brent Isbell officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Viewing will be during normal business hours on Monday.
Sadie was born April 16, 1913 to Emma Mae (Breland) and Herman R. Lieb in Jones County, Texas. She attended Oklahoma College for Women, Hardin-Simmons College (now University), and Abilene Christian College (now University). Sadie married Ralph Adam Smith on December 21, 1939 in Stamford, Texas. They moved to Abilene in 1942. Sadie and Ralph visited over sixty countries in their world travels. She was a homemaker and a member of University Church of Christ. Sadie made over 1000 quilts to donate to children's homes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (December, 1998); two brothers, William Lieb and Alfred Lieb; and her sister, Allene Jackson.
Survivors include a son, David R. Smith of Fountain Valley, California; a daughter, Annette Shelfer and husband, Douglas, of Arlington, Texas; a brother, Damon Lieb of Portales, New Mexico; a granddaughter, Michelle Anderson and husband, David, of Cleburne, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Sydney Anderson; three nephews; and one niece.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Hendrick Hospice and the staff at Mesa Springs Care Center for their loving care of Sadie.
