Mahala Ann Luttrell was born circa 1814 (per census records) in Lincoln County, Tennessee to Shelton Luttrell and Sarah Ann Bryant. Her father gave his permission for her to marry in 1835, as she was underage, which would make her born closer to 1818.

She died 1870 - 1876 in Proctor, Camden County, Missouri at the home of her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth (Luttrell) Luttrell. She married William "Lewis" Luttrell on 11 Sep 1835 in Schuyler County, Illinois (her first cousin) and together they had 6 children:

1. William Shelton Luttrell, b. circa 1836 (md. Cynthia Ann Reynolds)
2. John H. Luttrell, b. Jun 1837
3. Sarah Elizabeth Luttrell, b. 1841, (md. James Henderson L. Luttrell)
4. James Henry Luttrell, b. May 1844
5. George Washington Luttrell, Sr., b. 19 Aug 1846, d. 31 Jul 1925 (md. 1. Susanna Ann Littrell, 2. Martha Ann Thornton)
6. Polly Ann Luttrell, b. 07 Jan 1849, d. 24 Jan 1912 (md. 1. James Luttrell, 2. George Mason Dallas Thornton, Sr., 3. John H. Luttrell and outlived them all).
