Garth Olsen Rogers, 77, of Provo, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 of natural causes. He was born on February 22, 1929 in Snowflake, Arizona, the eighth of nine children of Samuel Lorenzo and AnnaBelle Flake Rogers. His family moved to Provo when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Provo High School and attended Brigham Young University where he earned his degree in Mathematics and Physics. He later went on to receive his master's degree at the University of New Mexico. He served an LDS mission in the Northern States. He married Verna Van Buren in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on June 28, 1951. They were married for 55 years.

They are the parents of six children: Connie (Jim) Turley of Mesa, Arizona, Gordon (Peggy) of West Jordan, Utah, Ruth (Don) Bigger of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dale (Kelly) of Draper, Utah, Van (Lynn) of Lehi, Utah, Margie (Brent) Bunker of Decatur, Illinois, 36 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Garth taught mathematics in Utah and California schools for 35 years. He served in many church callings including bishop. After retirement, Garth and Verna served two years in the Los Angeles Temple. Later they served a mission to Ohio, Columbus, then served in the Jordan River and Provo Temples until his death. He continued his mother's genealogy work with a passion, providing his family and friends with temple work to do.

His family meant everything to him and he is dearly loved. "The teacher's work is done"? NO! He will continue to teach us through the legacy he has left behind.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Pioneer Ward Chapel, 400 North 700 West, Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Provo City Cemetery.
