Lorenzo Flake Rogers
1917 - 2002
VETERAN

Dr. L. Flake Rogers quietly passed away at his home in Provo, Utah August 26, 2002, at the age of 84.

He was born December 6, 1917, in Snowflake, Arizona, to Samuel L. and Annabelle Flake Rogers. The example of his rich pioneer heritage was a source of inspiration and direction, which were evident in his devotion to service, family, and his Lord. He received his early education in northern Arizona and pursued his love for music on scholarship at Arizona State. Following a mission to the Northern States Mission; he returned to Brigham Young University where he met the love of his life, Mary Jane Brown. They were married February 8, 1941, and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

When Flake returned from serving his country during World War II in the United States Army, he and Mary decided to pursue further education in the field of podiatry at the College of Chiropody in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating, he returned to establish the Central Utah Foot and Ankle Clinic in Provo, where he practiced for 40 years and was delighted when his two sons joined him.

He loved serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and because of his unwavering testimony his willing hands were often used in positions of leadership. Flake served where ever he was called: on multiple high councils, bishop of the Provo 13th Ward, stake president of the Provo East Stake, regional representative, president of the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission, temple sealer, and stake patriarch.

He had varied hobbies and activities; an avid BYU sports fan, horses, music, Kiwanis, golfing, hunting, politics, and his cabin in the mountains.

The light in his eyes went out when his sweetheart of 61 years preceded him in death on April 1, 2002. He left a legacy of hard work, integrity and the continual pursuit of excellence.

He is survived by his children: Mary Kay (Dr. Ray) Luce, Marietta, Georgia; Gayle (Keith) Huntsman, Fort Collins, Colorado; Dr. Mark F. (Gainell) Rogers, Lindon, Utah; Dr. Thomas G. (Ruth) Rogers, Provo, Utah; Suzie (Michael) Draper, Sandy, Utah; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Inez Gardner, Tucson, Arizona and a brother Garth (Verna) Rogers, Provo, Utah, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment: Provo City Cemetery
