Lawler Barber. He retired from Illinois Power Co. as a gas operations superintendent in 1969. Mr. Barber was a lifelong employee of Illinois Power Co. except during World War II when he was employed by Houdaille Hershey Corp. as a design engineer working in association with the Manhattan Project for production of the atomic bomb. Mr. Barber also founded the M.E. Barber Pipeline X-Pander Plug Company in 1954, which still is in operation in Decatur. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Ionic Lodge 312, Springfield Consistory and the Ansar Shrine Club of Springfield. He married Geneva Kohr on Oct. 9, 1926.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Elaine Hynds and husband Don of Decatur; Phyllis Glover of Decatur; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
