Lena K. Nelson, 87, of Rock Springs passed away April 25, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

She had been a patient at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River since June of 2007.

Nelson was a lifelong resident of Rock Springs and died following a lengthy illness.

She was born July 14, 1921, in Rock Springs, the daughter of the late Attilio and Mary Rigoni Dellai.

Nelson attended and graduated from Rock Springs High School.

She married Allen J. Hatt in 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1970.

She later married John T. Nelson on Dec. 10, 1994, in Rock Springs.

Nelson was employed by Rocky Mountain Energy as office coordinator in 1969 and retired in 1987. She had also been employed by Union Pacific Coal Company for 19 and 1/2 years.

Her interests included dancing and bowling.

She won the City Championship in bowling in 1965.

She also enjoyed hunting mushrooms with her family, playing bridge and being a homemaker.

Nelson was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community, St. Michael's Group, American Fraternal Union and Council of Catholic Women and St. Monica's Sodality.

Survivors include her husband John T. Nelson of Rock Springs; nieces Debby Boese and Linda Ribovich, both of Rock Springs, Mary J. Sorgatz of Mesa, Ariz., Cheryl Dellai of Glendale, Ariz., Patty Stone of Patterson, Calif., Pamela Rogers of Huschton, Ga., Brenda Kraft of Modesto, Calif., and Roseline Johnson of Keansburg, N.J.; and one nephew Paul Dellai of Phoenix.

She was preceded in death by her parents Attilio and Mary Dellai; first husband Allen J. Hatt; three brothers Reno Dellai, Gene Dellai and Henry Dellai; and one sister Gazella Dellai, who died in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway in Rock Springs.

A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street in Rock Springs.

Interment will be in Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Vase chapel on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and on Friday at the Vase chapel until time of funeral services.
