Ivy B. Crouse, 97, of Waynesburg, formerly of Graysville, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, after being in failing health for the past year and a half.
She was born May 9, 1906, in Center Township, Greene County, a daughter of James Franklin and Catherine Jane (Jennie) Throckmorton Breese.
Mrs. Crouse resided in the Graysville area from 1945 until moving to Waynesburg in 1982.
She was a member of Allegheny Wesleyan Church in Waynesburg, where she served as treasurer until the age of 93.
Mrs. Crouse enjoyed volunteering and was a volunteer at Greene County Memorial Hospital until the age of 90.
She enjoyed baking salt-rising bread and raising a vegetable garden, which she did until the age of 95, and quilting as long as her health permitted.
On May 11, 1927, she married Layton Crouse, who died March 18, 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Howard Crouse of Graysville and Roy Albert Crouse of Waynesburg; a brother, James Franklin Breese of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, Ellen Carlson, Stephen, Allan, Lewis and Glenn Crouse and Teresa Roberts; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Wesley Breese; and eight sisters, Catherine Lucy Breese, Anna M. Tharp, Mary Johnston, Fannie Conklin, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Crouse and triplet sisters, Ruby Breese, who died in infancy, Ruth Bartolovich and Pearl Conkey.
