Rudolph Columbus Gilbert, 88, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc.
He was a veteran of World War II, a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He worked for Futorian Furniture for 37 years. He was a Baptist and a member of Pleasant Grove Church. He was a special uncle who lived life to the fullest.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Fred Hartley and Bro. Robert Armstrong officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include nieces, Amy Sherrill Clayton (Vernon), Marla Joy Sherrill and Joan Schiele; nephews, Mike Taylor, Ricky Taylor, Tommy Taylor, Timmy Taylor, Jimmy Taylor and Barry Stewart; a great-niece, Courtney Clayton Moore, and a great-nephew, Adam Sherrill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Newton Columbus Gilbert; his mother, Era Stegall Gilbert; sisters, Janell Stuart, Cubell Matthews, Mary Sue Sherrill Odel, Norma Taylor and Ludean Gilbert; two nieces, Barbara Matthews and Kathy Taylor; a nephew, Steve Sherrill; and a great-niece, Tiffany Clayton.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Matthews, Larry Roberts, Tracy Bolen, Robby Johnson, Jeff Elliot and John Bean.
