Elbridge married Josephine Maxwell June 7, 1917, Dade County, Missouri. He died at age 37, due to influenza and heart trouble, leaving two young children, Nitro, age 7, and Thomas Maxwell, age 5. He and wife Josephine had lived with his aged father and provided a home for him for several years. His sister Cytha and brother Howard survive him, along with a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Dadeville Christian Church by Rev. J.R. Crank , in the presence of a large concourse of people, the house being full, many being unable to gain entrance. The remains were laid to rest in the Masonic Cemetery.
