She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Eagle Township, daughter of Lewis and Helen McGarvey Klein. She married Willmer J. Schaefer on Nov. 24, 1943, at St. Mary's. He died Dec. 23, 1993.
Mrs. Schaefer was a homemaker and teacher.
Survived by: five daughters, Miriam (Robert) Eick of Dyersville, Mary ( Howard ) Francis of Decatur, Ill., Jeannette of Waterloo, Elaine (Joe Jr.) Siebel of Eagle Center and Coleen Hughes of Dubuque; five sons, Kenneth (Sharon) of Rice Lake, Wis., Richard (Crystal), Leo (Linda) and Tim, all of Waterloo, and Chris (Sheila) of Bellevue, Neb.; 28 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Edsill of Cedar Falls and Wilma Gilbert and Kathleen Schaefer, both of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Carolyn; a son, Raymond; a granddaughter, Cynthia Marie Eick; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Dan and Patrick Klein; and three sisters, Alice Klein, Dorothy Kressig and Monica Loftus.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, with burial in church cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 5 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and for an hour before services Tuesday, all at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is in charge of arrangements.
