DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Thomas G. Ament, 79, of Gilbertville, formerly of Dyersville and Worthington, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, from complications of COPD.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary recited at 6 p.m. and a American Legion/V.F.W. service at 7 p.m.
Tom was born on Aug. 9, 1932, son of Harold and Loretta (Huber) Ament. He married Joan Geistkemper on Aug. 1, 1955, in Dyersville.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus.
Tom was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and a collector of John Deere farm toys, and he enjoyed supporting his grandchildren's activities and events.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; four children, Steve (Donna), of Bellevue, Neb., Wayne (Diane), of Ames, Denise Moore, of North Liberty, and Tim (Patsy), of Gilbertville; 10 grandchildren; and sisters, Verna (Alfred) Geistkemper, of Savanna, Ill., Norma (David) Simmons, of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Lois Ament, of Fullerton, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
