In 1922 Lamar County Georgia was formed from Pike and Monroe Counties. The little area shared by both Counties was called Piedmont Community, as it still is today, but there is nothing left there except a few houses, farms and timberland.
Mount Zion Church was located directly in the middle of the Piedmont Community and had the only cemetery in the area, so I guess that is why it was called Piedmont Cemetery.
In the Pike County Library we found a book called the History of Lamar County; it listed Mount Zion and Piedmont Cemeteries as the same cemetery.
Thanks to the Thomaston-Upson Archives for their research and providing the above information.
