This is an obituary for Lucile Powell from the Waco Tribune Herald, Friday, Oct. 13, 1989:

Mrs. Roger M. (Lucile Evans Kendrick) Powell

Mrs. Roger M. (Lucile Evans Kendrick) Powell, 91, of 2100 Colcord Ave. died Thursday morning at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church Chapel, the Rev. A. J. Starnes officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Powell was born Sept. 10, 1898, in Waco. She graduated from Waco High School in 1917, from Baylor University in 1921 and from Texas Woman's University in 1944. She married James Marcellus Kendrick in 1921; he died in 1941. She married Roger Mills Powell in 1950; he died in 1988.

Mrs. Powell was a teacher and a librarian for 37 years. She taught in Knox City, La Vega, Waco and Midway schools, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Association of University Women and Henry Downs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Powell also was a member of the Historic Waco Foundation, Friday Luncheon Club, Fonce Club, Hamilton House and Fish Pond Club. She was Waco Librarian of the Year in 1964.

Survivors include four sons, James Marcellus Kendrick of Conroe, Charles Evans Kendrick of Beaumont, Jack Ish Kendrick of Fort Worth and Gardner Sleeper Kendrick of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 2107 Kendrick Lane.

Memorials may be made to the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church library fund.
