Charles was born in Waco, Texas, and graduated from Waco High School in 1940, completed his degree from Schreiner Institute, and attended the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, which included active duty during World War II and the Korean War. He was employed for many years as an engineer with Schlumberger Well Services.
Charles and his wife, Mary Ann, were charter members of the Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston. Charles was a deacon, a member of the Adult Choir and taught Sunday School at the Calder Baptist Church in Beaumont, and was a deacon and a member of the Sanctuary Choir at the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco.
He was a member of the Rotary Club in Waco and served on the boards of the Historic Waco Foundation, the McLennan County Historical Commission, and the Waco Historic Landmark Preservation Commission.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Kate Kendrick and Susan Kendrick; and his parents, Mr. James Marcellus Kendrick, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Roger M. Powell.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Spencer Kendrick; sons, Thomas Evans Kendrick and wife, Cheryl, and Richard Spencer Kendrick and wife, Susan; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Jim Kendrick and wife, Elaine, Jack Kendrick and wife, Mary Agnes, and Gardner Kendrick and wife, Karen; brother-in-law, Richard Spencer; other relatives and friends.
