Eugene D. Knight
Services for Eugene D. "PawPaw Gene" Knight, 80, Troup, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at First United Methodist Church, Troup, with the Revs. Mike Cline and Al Dusek officiating.
Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery, Troup, under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Knight died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at his residence. He was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Smith County to the late Dewitt Dalton Knight and Annie Mae Sellers Knight. He was a lifetime resident of Troup.
He married Birdie Hamilton Jan. 26, 1951, in Troup. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Knight was a retired tool pusher and driller in the East Texas oil field and served as caretaker for the Bradford Cemetery for many years. He attended the First United Methodist Church, Troup.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Alton Knight.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Birdie Hamilton Knight, Troup; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky Gene Knight and Jerry and Debbie Knight, all of Troup; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Tim Young, Troup; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Daniel and Beverly Knight, Misty Lynn Knight, Andrea Dawn Brown, Jennifer Knight Walston, Adam and Terrell Knight, Allie Young and Travis Young; and 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Johnson, Brad Hamilton, Justin Mallory, Billy "Jack" Stout, Tim Sherman and Jad Dusek.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Knight, Jack Hamilton, Glen Nesbitt and James "Junior" Hamilton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13.
