Eleanor is the daughter of James A. and Martha Kirk Montgomery.

She was a pioneer, among the first families to settle in Reno County, Kansas, and one of the original group known as, "The Tennessee Colony.

The couple settled in Haywood Co., Tennessee and raised a large family. Their children are: Martha Dove, Sarah Jane, John J., Caroline, Elizabeth, George W., James C., Mary Ann, Joseph A. William D., Louise A., Leodica Jane, and Barcelonia.
