Elizabeth Catherine Grittner Skime, 91, of Roseau, MN died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at LifeCare Roseau Manor.
She was born on December 25, 1916 in Devils Lake, ND to Otto and Hansine (Helgeson) Anderson. The family lived on a large ranch until moving to Minnesota when she was 11 years old. She grew up in Greenbush where she completed eighth grade.
Elizabeth married John Henry Grittner on May 14, 1934 in Greenbush, MN. They raised their eleven children in Roseau until his unexpected death on February 24, 1960.
On May 31, 1964, she married Norman Skime. They lived in International Falls, MN for eight years while he was employed by the paper mill. When Hurby retired in 1971, they returned to Roseau where Liz began her career as a cook at Eventide Home. She worked there until December of 2000. In her later years working at Eventide she made hundreds of quilts for residents, family and friends.
Elizabeth was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading, playing cards, rolling lefse, making potato dumplings and visiting with her friends. She especially enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her first husband, John Grittner and her second husband, Norman Skime; her daughter, Shirley; two daughter in-laws, Brenda Grittner and Emilie Grittner; son-in-law James Crandall; two grandsons, Jimmy Crandall and Gabriel Dunrud and all of her brothers and sisters.
Interment - Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Roseau, MN.
