She was the daughter of General James Thompson and Sarah (Burrows). She was baptized in Georgetown Christ Church Parish, Washington D.C., by The Rev. Gantt. Although she died in Mexico City and was buried there, she has a gravestone in Oak Hill. She married Michael Esperance Hersant (1799-1867) on 22 Apr 1823 in St Patrick's Catholic Church, Washington D.C. (Michael was the son of Michael Pierre Dominique de Hersant).

One child by 2nd wife: Marie Henrietta Hersant, b. 20 Sep 1897, Granpre, France; d. 17 Apr 1976, Nice, France; m. Edouard Charles Azieres (b. 1899) on 19 May 1919 in Paris, France; two children: Andre Charles Henri Azieres and Anne Marie Azieres.

2) Maria Therese Henriette Hersant, b. 18 Oct 1825 in Washington, D.C., Bap. 7 Feb 1829, St John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square, Washington, D.C., by The Rev. William Hawley, Godparents: William Watkins, Anna Maria Thornton, Marie Sophia Bouligony. m. Monsieur Melin of Orleans, France, on 8 Feb 1847.
