June Whiteley Tilman

With loved ones attending her at her home in Nampa, Idaho, June Whiteley Tilman, 83, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. June was born on June 29, 1926, to Torrey Brigham Newton and Ruby Stone Asbury Woodruff at their home in Weiser, Idaho. She was the third of 10 children. She graduated from Weiser High School. While a senior, she met and married Corp. Eldon Whiteley. From this union 10 children were born. After Eldon returned from the war, they lived in Emmett, Idaho, for two years then moved and lived in Middleton, Idaho, for 30 years. In 1974, they sold the farm in Middleton and bought one in Melba, Idaho, where they lived until Eldon's death in 1988. In 1991, June sold the farm and worked for four years as a care provider for Nan Hughes of Melba. Following a hip operation, she lived with her daughter, Shirley in Middleton for seven months after which she served an 18- month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Fort Worth Texas Mission. In 1994 she married Robert (Bob) Eli Smithson. The coupled lived in Bob's rural home in the Melba area. Bob passed away and in 1998 she married Eben Heed Tilman. They made their home in Roy, Utah, where they served as cannery missionaries and temple workers. They moved to Nampa in 2003 where they have resided since. June served in many church callings and was a faithful visiting teacher until her death. June loved all of life - the people, the things she did and where she lived. She accepted her illness as she did her life, with enthusiasm and wonder at what was ahead. She would say, "I am not dying of cancer, I'm living with it." She amazed everyone with her attitude and fortitude. She will be missed by all who knew her.

June is survived by her spouse, Eben; stepchildren, Carolann (Fred) Norton, Nampa, Idaho, Susann (Greg) Stapp, Farmington, Utah, Teresa Tilman, Middleton, Nathan (Jean) Tilman, Georgetown, Calif. and Roberta (Kay) Black, Salt Lake City, Utah; paternal children, Shirley (Max) Schmitz, Middleton, Robert (Pat) Whiteley, Nampa, Eilleen (Cline) Waddell, Fruitland, Idaho, Bill (Iris) Whiteley, Middleton, Kathy (Kim) Mills, Middleton, Barbara (Jim) Stephenson, Twin Falls, Idaho, Joan (Calvin) Newby, Meridian and Jerri (Corey) Kesler, Kuna, Idaho; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Ruth (Leo) Nicholas, Lynwood, Wash., Lucille (Leon) Bergquist, Weiser, Idaho, Ella Mae (Wes) Maisch, Ocean Springs, Miss., David (Joyce) Woodruff, Weiser, and Wilford (LuAnn) Woodruff, Queen Creek, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Donald (Mavis) Woodruff and sisters, Necia (Wayne) Sandburg and Barbara Mae Woodruff; a stepson, Robert (Karen) Smithson; and two children, Carol Marie and Steven Myron.

Funeral services were held at noon on Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Middleton LDS Stake Center, 23644 US Hwy 30, off I-84 at the Middleton exit. Interment will follow at the Middleton Cemetery.
