Actress. Best known for playing Ruth Parker Brent Martin in the daytime serial "All My Children" (1970 to 2000). The daughter of radio producer Homer Fickett, she was educated at Wheaton College and studied acting at New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse. She initiated what would become a successful stage career with the Broadway play "I Know My Love" (1949 to 1950) and followed this with her Theatre World Award-winning performance in "Tea and Sympathy" (1953 to 1955). She earned a Tony Award nomination for playing Eleanor Roosevelt opposite Ralph Bellamy in "Sunrise at Campobello" (1958 to 1959). During the early 1950s, Fickett began making her mark on TV in live episodes of such programs as "Kraft Theatre," followed by guest roles in the series "The Defenders," "Bonanza" and "The F.B.I." From 1961 until 1963, she co-hosted the CBS daily morning program "Calendar" with Harry Reasoner. During her thirty-years on "All My Children," she received an Emmy Award in 1973 and two additional nominations (1974 and 1978).
