Roy W. Brandau, 82, of RR3, Wapwallopen, died Saturday at home.
Born March 24, 1920 in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Phillip and Matilda (Waldron) Brandau. He was a 1937 graduate of the former Hazleton High School, and a 1949 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teacher's College with a bachelor of science degree in education. He received his master's degree in education from Temple University. He served as a commander of the ambulance corps in the U.S. Army during World War II. He taught in the Eastern Lancaster Area School District, New Holland, and was the chairman of the business education department when he retired in 1982. He was active in the Pennsylvania State Education Association and served as its president the state level in 1963. He was a past member of the New Holland Rotary Club, and was active in St. John's United Church of Christ, Wapwallopen and its choir.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Clio Mowery; son, R. William Brandau II, Wapwallopen; daughter, Kerry (Abby) Shields, Covington, La.; five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Old River Church, Wapwallopen, with the Rev. M. Jane Hess officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Wapwallopen. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m.Tuesday at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Old River Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, c/o Linda Schell, RR2 Box 22P, Wapwallopen, Pa. 18660.
