"Community Leader Dies at 79
Mohler S. Witwer, 79, of 3015 Robinhood Lane, a prominent insurance agent and community leader, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital after an unexpected illness. He was director emeritus of the National Bank and Trust Co., and a former officer with the St. Joseph Bank and Trust Co. He also was a former insurance firm owner, having operated Mohler Witwer Insurance Co. He was later a real estate broker and co-owner of the Kelly-Witwer Real Estate Co.

Born on June 15, 1902, in South Bend, he had lived here all his life. On March 10, 1928 in Owosso, Mich., he married the former Jane Osburn. She survives, along with a daughter, Mrs. Violette Witwer Sutton of Wilmington, Del.; a son, George O. of Kendallville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend. Rev. Philip J. Sorensen, D.M., pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

He was a member of the church, a former director of the YMCA, a director of the Northern Indiana Historical Society, a member of the Portage Lodge 675 F & AM, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of South bend, Orak Shrine Temple of Hammond, The South Bend Country Club, The University of Notre Dame Club, the Four Lakes Country Club, the South Bend Rotary Club, and Zeta Pi fraternity.

He was a graduate of the former South Bend High School and attended Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., and was a graduate of the University of Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity."
