South Bend Tribune, South Bend, Ind., Monday, July 8, 1946:
"Mrs. Witwer is Dead at 84
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Violette Witwer, aged 84, of 117 South Eddy street, died at 7:15 p. m. Sunday in the residence after an illness of four months. She was born Aug. 18, 1861 in Elkhart, Indiana, and was educate in Waterford, Ind., and in Goshen, Ind., schools and Morgan Park seminary, Chicago. On June 24, 1885, she was married to George M. Witwer, who passed away May 28, 1942. Survivors are a son, Mohler S. Witwer and two grandchildren, George O. and Violette Witwer, all of South Bend. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday in A. M. Russell chapel. Rev. Charles Tupper Baillie, D. D., pastor of First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. Mrs. Witwer was a member of the Mothers' club of First Presbyterian church."
