Former Resident Dies in California

Elisa Ochsenbein, 86, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allen Linvall in Bell Gardens, California, early Friday morning. She was born April 30, 1872 in Homberg, Switzerland, and came to Montpelier in 1900 with her husband, Frederick Ochsenbein, who preceded her in death in 1945. Mrs. Ochsenbein resided in Montpelier from 1900 to 1945, when she moved to Bell Gardens.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Lena) Rowell of Oildale, California; Mrs. Allen (Martha) Linvall, Bell Gardens; Mrs. Sylvester (Anna) Bills of Montpelier; three sons, Herman Ochsenbein of Oildale, John Ochsenbein and Carl Ochsenbein, both of Montpelier, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1 o’clock in the Montpelier Second ward chapel with Boyd Smart conducting.

Prayer at the mortuary was by Bishop B. E. Mumford. Mrs. Lester Armatage played the prelude and postlude. The opening prayer was by Ferris Hess; vocal selection, “I Shall Not Pass Again This Way”, trio comprised of Mrs. Reed Lowe, Mrs. Dean Larsen and Mrs. Eugene Wilcox, accompanied by Mrs. Lester Armatage; speakers, Bishop Clifford Skinner and Bishop Doyle Anthony; vocal solo, “In the Garden,” Winslow Swensen, accompanied by Marilyn Swensen; benediction was by Lloyd Derricott. The Second Ward Relief Society was in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by Joseph Einzinger. Pallbearers were David J. Gerber, Edward Messerly, H. G. Nuckols, John H. Schmid, A. C. Van Orman and E. B. Wuthrich.

The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
