He was born on June 25, 1921, in Baden Township near Coulee, ND, the son of Alvey and Alice (Stanton) DePue. He attended country school through the eighth grade and worked on the family farm of his parents. On July 16, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. His tours included campaigns in northern France, Germany, Ardennes and central Europe. He was injured during the Battle of the Bulge, and was honorably discharged from the service on January 31, 1946. Art received the Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, European Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars and Purple Heart and the American Theater Ribbon.
Following his discharge, Art returned to the family farm near Coulee, and operated the farm with his parents until their retirement. He cared for his parents and disabled sister while maintaining the farm. Art moved into Kenmare in 1983, following his retirement from farming. He lived at the Walt and Donna Weaver home in Kenmare until 2001, before entering the Kenmare Baptist Home.
Art was a member of the Donnybrook American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors: He is survived by one nephew, Dean Aker, Rapid City, SD, one niece, Jordis Leaver, Whitewood, SD; caregivers, Walt and Donna Weaver, Kenmare. His parents, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Graveside Service: Friday, June 13, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
Visitation: Friday, June 13, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
