Mrs. Johanna Maurer, wife of William Maurer, who formerly conducted the general merchandise store at Ada, died Sunday night at 10:30 o'clock at her home in Ada, after having been ill for five days. She was 76 years age.
Mrs. Maurer, nee Johanna Neuhaus, was born at Newton Jan. 18, 1856, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Neuhaus. She attended schools in the vicinity and was confirmed at the Newton Reformed church by the Rev. Thilmann Grosshuesch.
Her marriage to William Maurer took place at Newton, June 20, 1880 and the couple made their home at Ada, conducting the general merchandise store for thirty-two years. The business is now being conducted by a son, Richard Maurer.
Two years ago on June 22 Mr. and Mrs. Maurer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary..
Mrs. Maurer was a kind and loving mother, greatly devoted to her home and family. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Immanuel Reformed church at Town Herman. She was also a charter member of its Ladies' Aid society and served as one of its officers for a number of years.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Maurer is survived by six children; Mary, Mrs. Albert Buddahn, Milwaukee; Mrs. Anna Menke, wife of the Rev. O. Menke of Manitowoc; W. C. Maurer, Milwaukee; Bertha, Mrs. C. H. Wehrman, this city, and Mrs. Martha Huebner of Green Bay; Green Bay; R. F. Maurer, Ada; one sister, Mrs. John Schuette, Newton; two brothers, Henry Neuhaus, Ada, and Gerhard Neuhaus, Colby, Wis., and seven grandchildren.
A host of relatival and friends also mourn Mrs.Maurer's death.
Three sisters, Mrs. William Grosshuesch, Mrs. John Grosshuesch and Mrs. A. Stauss and two brothers, Jacob Neuhaus and William Neuhaus preceded Mrs. Maurer in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Maurer home at Ada, and at 2 o'clock at Immanuel Reformed church in town of Herman. Th Rev. John Gatermann will officaite and burial will be made in the church cemetery.
