Prominent lawyer and mayor of Davenport, Iowa. He was at one time the richest man in Iowa, and a prominent member of the Scott County Bar. He donated 344 paintings to the City of Davenport, establishing the Davenport Museum of Art in 1925. The Museum was the first public art museum in the state of Iowa. The Museum is now home to over 3,200 works of art.
