Long-Active Worker Dies – Mrs. Watzek, 67, Busy in Charity

Mrs. C. H. Watzek, 67, long active with the Red Cross and the Mann home, died Sunday at her residence at the Envoy apartments 2336 S.W. Osage street.

Mrs. Watzek was born Helene Ficke at Davenport, Ia., March 19, 1889. She was married in Davenport to her surviving widower September 27, 1913, and moved immediately to Wauna. In 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Watzek moved to Portland.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal church. During World War II, she was active in the Red Cross and served on the board. For many years she had been a member of the board of the Mann home and was secretary of the finance committee.

She was chairman of the committee that directed the construction in 1954 of a new infirmary for the Mann home. She had also served two terms on the Fruit and Flower Day nursery and was a member of the Town club.

Besides her widower, survivors include a son, P. F. Watzek, Crossett, Ark.; a daughter, Mrs. Frances W. Warren, Eugene; a sister, Mrs. D. N. Simonson, Rock Island, Ill., and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at Trinity Episcopal church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Based on information published on page 6 of the Davenport Democrat on 28 September 1913, Helene married Charles Harlan Watzek on 27 September 1913 at her parent's home.
