Eugene F."Gene" Baer, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Villa St. Francis in Olathe. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 143rd & Blackbob Rd., 913-7686777, in Olathe. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Gene was born in Buffalo, KS, on November 6, 1912, to Rufus and Mary Baer, and grew up in Hepler, KS. He married LaVera Goff on June 26, 1942, in Kansas City, MO. They have three children, Pam, Steve, and Loy. Gene proudly served in the Army Air Corps for eight years, from 1940-1948. Following his term of service, he lived the majority of his adult life in Olathe, KS. He worked as a Mill Foreman for R.L. Sweet Lumber Company for 23 years before retiring. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 62 years, LaVera Baer, who has faithfully taken care of him through the last 31/2 years of his illness; he also leaves his children and spouses, Pam (Baer) and Al Gates, Kittredge, CO, Steve and Carol Baer, Monte Vista, CO, and Loy (Baer) and Charles Jr. Jahr, Olathe, KS; five grandchildren, Chris Spears, Cathy Johnston, Cassy Baer, Wesley Baer, and Stephanie Gross; and seven greatgrandchildren. Gene was a gentle and highly respected man who was very devoted to his family and fully enjoyed life.
