Thomas was the son of Thomas Bingham and Mary Lucas of England. He married Selina Williamson in England in 1870. Together they had a large family which included Thomas, William, Selina, Mary, Albert, Herbert, Alfred, Cary, Earnest and Walter. Walter would die of diptheria when he was about a year and a half while the couple was living in Bracebridge, Ontario.
