LUXEMBURG, Iowa -- Vincent P. Hogan, 85, of Luxemburg, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center, after struggling with Alzheimer's disease. He was lovingly surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 2 p.m.

He was born on June 26, 1926, son of Ray and Hilda (Bruggeman) Hogan.

Vince was a World War II Army veteran.

He married Helen Olivia Fruth on Sept. 28, 1948, in Colesburg. Vince and Helen began their marriage of almost 63 years farming in the Ryan area for three years before moving to the family farm near Luxemburg.

He loved to socialize with family and friends and regularly played cards and went fishing. Vince loved to travel with Helen, "the love of his life," both before and after his retirement. In 1984, soon after retirement, Vince and Helen moved into the town of Luxemburg and began a new chapter in their lives.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; seven children, Roger (Mary) Hogan, of Luxemburg, Jerry (Kathy) Hogan, of Portage, Wis., Ron (Sherrie) Hogan, of Dyersville, Marilyn (Ron) Schultz, of Holy Cross, Dan (Deb) Hogan, of Guttenberg, Mike Hogan, of Holy Cross, and Carol (Wayne) Lau, of Guttenberg; 15 grandchildren, Bill (Sara) Hogan, Steven (Kathy) Hogan, Marcia (Matt) Fiegen, Bob (Andrea) Hogan, Eric (Terri) Hogan, Jenny (JJ) Coohey, Trisha (Jeff) Thier, Kelly (Tom) Ahmann, Stephanie (Brian) Gogel, Ryan (Ashley) Schultz, Jamie (Janet) Hogan, Terry (Melissa) Hogan, Ben (friend, Ashley Feltes), Hogan, Jessica (Nick) Smith and Amber Lau; three stepgrandchildren, Jason (Alex) Rath, Justin (friend, Kelly Huber) Rath and Chris (Heather) Rath; 27 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; siblings, John "Jack" (Carol) Hogan and Phil (Deanna) Hogan, both of Colesburg; two brothers-in-law, James Helle and Laverne "Bud" Domeyer; and a sister-in-law, Marie Thier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children at birth, Joseph and Donna; two sisters, Joann Helle and Ellen Domeyer; a brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Sally Pasker; and brothers-in-law, Tony Fruth and Jim Thier.
