Ira Loy - Again the death messenger has visited our community and called away another of our honored and respected citizens. Ira Loy was born in Madison Township, Jay County, March 26, 1851, his parents Adam and Rebecca (Long) Loy being among the early pioneers of that township. He was married to Nancy Rines, Sept. 10, 1870. To this union one son and two daughters were born; James A. at home; Belle, wife of Joseph Shreeve of Greene township; Vernie, wife of Erwin Whitenack of Collett. Besides the widow and children he is survived by three grandsons, whom he dearly loved. Surviving also are one brother; James M. Loy, of Elkhart, a half brother, Plina T. Loy of Fort Recovery, a half sister, Mrs. Wm. Nelson, of Portland, two nieces, Mrs. Ira Neff and Mrs. John Carpenter of Goshen, and a nephew, Wilbur Loy of Elkhart. Beside those nearer are a host of friends and neighbors to whom he had endeared himself. He united with his church under the ministry of the Rev. D. F. Spade at Valentine school house, now Fairview, in 1873. He later removed his membership to Salamonia Christian Church which connection he maintained until his death, having finished a half century of Christian service. His death occurred January 17, 1924, at his home in Pike Township, he having reached the age of 72 years, 9 months and 21 days. A kind and obliging neighbor, a loyal and sympathetic friend and a citizen who will be sorely missed has passed from among us. Yet we meekly submit to the will of One whom we know doeth all things for the best.
