Rubye Jones Ortman, 87, of Mountain Home

Rubye Jones Ortman, 87, of Mountain Home died Saturday (June 5, 1993) at her residence.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kirby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Waymon C. Hollis officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Kirby Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Cotter.

Mrs. Ortman, a lifetime Mountain Home resident, was born July 25, 1905, at Mountain Home. She was a lifelong Methodist and member of the United Methodist Church of Mountain home. She married Frank B. Ortman on Oct. 14, 1923.

Survivors include her husband, Frank B. Ortman of Mountain Home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Althea and Charles Heard of Bull Shoals, and Anita and Clyde Becker of Ponca City, Okla.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ortman was a graduate of Cotter High School. She was a member of the Cotter Saturday Club for more than 60 years and was awarded outstanding club woman of the Batesville District twice. She also served as president of the Batesville District of the Arkansas Federation of Women's Clubs. While a member of the Saturday Club, she was one of the originators and in charge of the Perpetual Care Fund for the Cotter Walnut Hill Cemetery. She was a member and past president of the Baxter County League of Women Voters.

Mrs. Ortman served on the planning and building committee for Baxter County Regional Hospital and was a member of the governing board when the hospital opened in 1963. The Ortman Room at the hospital was named in her honor. She was also a member of the hospital advisory committee and a charter member of the hospital auxiliary.

She was a charter member and past president of the Cotter Home Demonstration Club, past president of Alley-White American Legion Auxiliary. She also served on the county Welfare Board, the county Red Cross Board and the committee for the Baxter County Centennial Celebration.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Judge James T. and Rita Ellison Jones; a grandson, Mark Heard; a sister; and four brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walnut Hill Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund in care of Wanda Fielding, Health Services Foundation of Baxter County Regional Hospital or the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
