August W. Fischer, 76, of R. 1, Newton, a retired Manitowoc County farmer and former Town of Centerville supervisor, died Tuesday morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Fischer, Sr., the deceased was born on his parents' Centerville farm, Feb. 26, 1876. He married the former Ida Roehl of the Town of Mosel on Dec. 3, 1899, and the couple moved to his Centerville farm home in 1901, remaining there ever since. In addition to serving two terms as a supervisor on the Centerville town Board, Mr. Fischer was active in church affairs, being a trustee for three years of the Sts. John and Peter Lutheran Congregation at Cleveland.

Surviving are the wife, a son, Alfred, on the home farm; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Esther) O'Neil of Osman; one brother, William of Cleveland, and a sister, Mrs. William Meyer of Sheboygan. Five sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Sts. John and Peter Lutheran Church, Cleveland, with the Rev. Elden Bode officiating. Burial will be in Saxon Cemetery.
