Bill Adsit, longtime Yale business man, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the Drumright Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Lawson Cemetery. Bill Adsit was born in Oklahoma City on March 18, 1923 to Claud O. and Roby B.(Berryhill) Adsit, and, because his dad worked for the Frisco Railroad and the family moved around some, he lived his first few years in Terlton, then in Keystone and finally Mannford, where he completed his schooling in 1941. He married his high school sweetheart Willa Dean Trower. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He was assigned to San Diego, Ca. to the Naval Air Station and underwent ordinance training. He spent the remainder of the Second World War on ships that patrolled the California coast. He received his discharge in 1946, came back to Oklahoma. In 1947 or 48, he took a job with the Independent Eastern Torpedo Company who manufactured nitro-glycerin for use in oil wells for Ok, TX., KS and N.M. In 1953 he bought the Yale plant, renamed it the Yale Glycerine Co and operated it until 1960. He bought the lumberyard on south Main Street from Kermit Ingham in 1960. He owned and operated Adsit Lumber from 1960 to present and with the help of his son Richard, has made it a successful business venture throughout the years. He was an amicable man having many friends and was a good friend to many. He was known for his good humor. Bill was a wonderful steward of the earth. He was the moral compass of the family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Willa Dean Adsit of the home, daughters Fernanda Mendenhall and husband Thom of Yale, Dianne Lovitt and husband Roy of Mannford and Judith Goddard and husband Curtis of Cushing, son Richard Adsit and wife Lynn of Yale, grandchildren Richard Mendenhall, Philip Mendenhall, Barton Lovett, Ashley Lovett Jacobs, Christian Adsit, Ricky Adsit McIntyre, Billy Scott Goddard and Bradley Goddard, thirteen great grandchildren, 2 brothers Dale and Forest and his baby sister Patty.
