Lloyd Dale Adsit, Major USAF (RET.), 92, of Marietta passed from this life May 1, 2017. He was born January 7, 1925 in Terlton, OK to Claude and Roby (Berryhill) Adsit. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served in WWII. He was a navigator on the B-24 Liberator in the Pacific theater. After graduating from pilot school, he flew the C-119 Flying Boxcar in the Korean War and then flew the C-130 Hercules for the remainder of his military career. In 1958, he was awarded the Tactical Air Command Individual Achievement Award and the Air Force Commendation Medal for his role in the rescue of a U.S. Navy aviator downed at sea.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1963, Major Adsit attended Florida State University and then accepted a position with Lockheed-Georgia as a C-130 test pilot and later worked in Sales Promotion. He retired from Lockheed in 1986, after many years of doing what he loved – flying and traveling. In the years after retirement, he continued to enjoy traveling, gardening and playing golf (until he was 90!). He loved his family, loved his friends and loved his country. He told his family many times that he wanted to be remembered as a soldier.

He met his wife Vonnell (Chambers) while stationed in Memphis, TN in 1953. They were married for 64 wonderful years. Other survivors are his daughter Della Adsit Ridley and husband Jerome of Kennesaw and son David Adsit and wife Nan (Brown) of Cartersville; and grandsons Alex Adsit and Drew Adsit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at H.M. Patterson Canton Hill funeral home in Marietta followed by a Committal Service with full military honors at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgins Drive, Canton, GA 30114.
