Mrs. Mabel Phifer Laid
At Rest Wednesday
Mrs. Mabel Phifer passed away at the Community. Hospital at Imperial on Sunday after a critical illness of several weeks, a part of which time she was a patient in an Omaha hospital. She was sixty years of age.

Mrs. Phifer was well known in Dundy county, having resided in the Haigler, Parks and Benkelman communities since coming to Dundy county as a child. She was the wife of the late William H. Phifer, who preceded her in death in 1948, There were eight children in the Phifer family, two of whom preceded their mother in death.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. J. William Woodworth, United Presbyterian church pastor officiating. Mrs. Dorothy Woodworth, the soloist, was accompanied by Miss Arylce Randolph at the organ. Casket bearers were Tom Ballard, William Morrison, Reece Hardwick, Albert Dyke, L. M. Stafford and Alfred Fugate. Interment was in the Benkelman cemetery and arrangements were by the Laughlin Funeral Home.

Mary Mabel Wall was born to Adam and Mary Wall at Stratton, Nebraska, September 17, 1894, and departed this life April 18, 1954, at the Community hospital, Imperial, Nebraska.

She moved with her parents to McCook, Nebraska in 1902 where they lived until 1905. They moved from McCook to north of Haigler where she grew to womanhood.

On April 4, 1911, she was united in marriage to William H. Phifer, who preceded her in death in Sep-tember, 1948. To this union eight children were born; seven boys and one girl. Two of her sons, Charles Edward and Everett Clinton, preceded her in death.

She is survived by five sons, Marlin W. and John A. of Benkelman; William E. of Culbertson; James P. of Arriba, Colo.; Paul E. of Holdrege, Nebr., and her daughter, Mrs. Mildred Mosser of Haigler, and eighteen grandchildren. Also two brothers, W. E. and C. R Wall of Haigler, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Phifer of Brush, Colo.

She was a kind and loving woman, who devoted her life to doing for others and whose greatest joy came from her daily tasks as wife and mother. Besides caring for her family she found time to contribute to the community life about her and as long as her health permitted had been active in several organizations. She was well known throughout the Benkelman, Parks and Haigler communities. Besides her family, she leaves a host of friends in this area to mourn her passing.
